It’s been about a month since Typhoon Haiyan wreaked havoc on the people of the Philippines and in the spirit of the holiday season, I thought now was the perfect time to get together with others and give back! In an effort to raise awareness and money for the Typhoon Haiyan relief efforts, I am partnering with two South Florida health and fitness professionals to host a three-hour long community fitness and health event for charity. Jay Lawrence, owner and operator of You Fresh Naturals, a gourmet nut butter company based in Miramar, Florida will be providing free samples and offering nutritional tips and advice. In addition, Liza Muravyeva, a certified personal trainer and registered dietician is lending her expertise to this charity event and will be conducting a nutritional Q&A session where she debunks common food myths and provides useful eating tips and suggestions for the holiday season.
This event is a spinoff of my popular monthly Sweaty Sunday Funday Beach Workout. This time around, we hope to have an even bigger turnout and raise at least $1,000 for the Mercy Corps Charity, which will directly help displaced families and children in the Philippines. This event is taking place on Sunday, December 8 from 10AM to 1PM on Fort Lauderdale Beach and is completely FREE to attend. Participants are encouraged to bring a friend or family member as well!
The first part of the event will consist of a high-intensity 60-minute partner circuit training workout session with me, which will begin at 10:30 AM sharp! Following the workout, Jay, Liza and I will be conducting prize giveaways, a nutritional Q&A along with body fat testing. To wrap up this event, we will be conducting fun fitness contests to see who can perform the most push-ups, pull-ups, and see who can plank the longest! This is a great opportunity for south Floridians to learn new nutritional information, pick up some healthy eating options, get a serious workout in, network with other fitness enthusiasts, all while raising money and awareness for a good cause!
